La Mesa-El Cajon Branch

AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research.

In 1951, our branch was founded when members in the La Mesa area decided to become independent from the San Diego Branch. In 1990, the El Cajon Branch joined and formed the current branch.  Our membership averages over 200 members.

Value Promise-
By joining AAUW, we belong to a community that breaks through educational and economic barriers so that all women have a fair chance.

Founded in 1881, the American Association of University Women has led the nation in advocacy, action, research and lifelong learning for women and girls.  AAUW believes in the advancement of women, equal opportunity and the right to choose from many alternative lifestyles and careers.

AAUW's leadership promotes gender equality in the classroom.  AAUW has led coalition lobbying efforts on civil rights, welfare reform, reproductive health care, pay equity, family and medical leave and dependent care.

AAUW's Education Foundation is the oldest and largest single source of fellowships and grants for women in higher education.

AAUW's Legal Advocacy Fund supports people seeking judicial redress for sex discrimination in higher education and the workplace.

AAUW conducts conventions and workshops for members on matters of importance to women and girls on local, state national and international levels.

With nearly 14,000 active members, AAUW California is a dynamic organization with a long history of affecting change in issues women care about: education, civil rights, equity in the workplace, reproductive rights, and gender discrimination, to name a few.
